Lebua Sky Bar Bangkok: Rooftop Bar from "Hangover 2"

border=0

It's 6:30 pm, just after sunset in Bangkok, Thailand. I'm standing in the Lebua Sky Bar with my boyfriend. From the 63rd floor, we look at the lights of the city and the river as I sip my hangovertini. In the article I tell you everything you need to know for your visit to one of the highest rooftop bars in the world - height, location, arrival, opening hours, prices and dress code.

Lebua Sky Bar Bangkok: location of the movie "Hangover 2"

It is the Rooftop Bar ( open daily from 4pm to 1am ) of the 5 star Lebua at State Tower . You can book the hotel via Booking.com.

In the movie "Hangover 2", the wolf pack with Chow visits the roof terrace, where the Sky Bar is located next to the outdoor restaurant Sirocco.

Even then I was fascinated by the view. It is one of the highest rooftop bars in the world . The New York Times raves about "the most breathtaking rooftop bar you'll ever see."

State Tower: Location height of Lebua Sky Bar

"Good that I'm not afraid of heights," says Carsten as we look up from the Chao Phraya River to the golden dome on the State Tower. Thailand's fifth tallest building, at 247 meters, is located in Bangkok's shopping and business district of Silom .

In the morning we arrived from Germany in Bangkok , checked in at our hotel and slept until 17 o'clock. We set the alarm because we want to be at the Lebua Sky Bar relatively early.

I have been to Bangkok many times before, also in the Lebua Sky Bar. For Carsten it is the first visit.

Getting to the Lebua Sky Bar

We find good to the Rooftop Bar Bangkok, which we can already see from our hotel - the Millennium Hilton . The way:

  • by boat we drive to Sathorn (Taksin)
  • then we walk for 10 minutes
  • through the hall on the ground floor up to the elevators, here is already a long line
  • Welcoming by the staff (important: comply with dress code, eg no flip flops)
  • Take the elevator to the 64th floor
  • go left outside
  • the large staircase (you remember the scene in the movie?) going downstairs in the open to the rooftop restaurant and bar in changing colors

Dress code in the Lebua Sky Bar

You can feel like a movie star as you walk down the stairs and sip a cocktail in the rooftop bar.

As I look around, I realize: Especially the women have made very smart. Most wear long summer dresses and high shoes. The men are more likely to wear casual clothes.

It is a smart casual dress code. According to the dress code, you will not be admitted if you have the following:

  • sportswear
  • Flip flops
  • in men, sleeveless clothing, shorts or open shoes

I'm wearing a turquoise tunic, long black pants and black ballerinas. Carsten is wearing a shirt, blue trousers and closed shoes.

We can easily get through the entrance control. Unlike my first visit a few years ago, my friends and I were not let in because we wore flip flops.

By the way, you can borrow or buy something at the booth in front of the building in case of emergency.

Prices in the Lebua Sky Bar

We take a look at the extensive drinks menu . I order a Hangovertini for salted 690 baht, Carsten a beer for 400 baht. With taxes and fees, we come to a total bill of 1,200 baht.

My cocktail was created for the film crew of "Hangover 2". It contains green tea liqueur, apple juice, martini and honey with rosemary. It tastes refreshing and fruity.

Update from October 2019: As a reader reported, the Hangovertini now costs a whopping 1,275 baht.

The atmosphere in the Lebua Sky Bar

The roof terrace I feel as very chic and stylish , just with the golden dome. The atmosphere is not stiff, but quite loose .

It is very crowded : we hear many Germans, Italians and French around us. Most of them are jostling on the ground to shoot photos. Or they are at the bar.

Near the bar are also the tables of Sirocco. Here you can enjoy a romantic dinner in the highest open-air restaurant in the world - but with quite a few people around you.

You can also sit in the Distil Bar on the 64th floor. There is much less going on here. But you have discs made of window glass in front of the fantastic view.

My conclusion to the Lebua Sky Bar

The view from one of the highest rooftop bars in the world is beautiful! I think you should visit the Lebua Sky Bar at least once . However, we found it very crowded and the prices for the drinks were very high.

All information at a glance

Lebua at State Tower , Lebua Sky Bar on 63rd floor, 1055 Silom Road, Bangkok
By boat or BTS Skytrain to Sathorn / Taksin, then 10 minutes on foot
Opening hours: daily from 16 to 1 o'clock
You do not have to pay for the bar
Prices for the drinks: very high, z. B. 690 baht for a Hangovertini

Which Rooftop Bar Bangkok do you like most?

Note: There was no cooperation with Lebua, we paid our own drinks.

    Dear Anja,

The tips of you are really good and we have tried a lot. Many thanks for that! I would like to give just one hint: the price for one! Hanovertini in the Lebua Rooftop Bar was now (October 2019) 1,275 Baht (zz about 38 EURO). It was a truly unique experience, so we indulged, but a full day trip in Chiang Mai to Laos and Myanmar cost 1200 baht with all the bells and whistles. But it was a dream vacation !!!!

    best regards

      Dear Christina,

Thank you for your update, I have noted in the article. I found the drinks for Bangkok already extremely expensive during our visit, but apparently you can top that. Unfortunately…

      best regards

    Dear Anja,
Also I would like to recommend you the Above Eleven. However, I would only drink something there, the food is there rather below average and no Thaifood?
    It's great there anyway!
    Lovely wishes,
    Natalie

      Dear Natalie,

Thanks for the tip! Then I will definitely do that if I'm in Bangkok for two more days before returning to Germany. But I'm looking forward to the Thaifood again. :)

      Greetings from Sydney

    Dear Anja,
for a Bangkok newbie, of course, the Skybar is mandatory. Especially because of the great view. Since my first visit in 2009 there is unfortunately nothing like it used to be. At that time we still spent the whole evening on sofas in the open air, drank and ate and afterwards did not burn out financially. Also in 2010 you could still afford a nice dinner there as a student ;-) 2013 we were there again for dinner, but the masses who go to the bar through the restaurant and the prices (!) Were amazing: D Our new favorite Skybar is the Above Eleven. :)

      Dear Romeo,

I also remembered the prices as not quite as hard.

Thanks for the tip to Above Eleven! Maybe I can get there with Carsten.

      Greetings (and to the ITB?)

    Dear Anja,
Hach there memories awake. By fortunate coincidence we were even able to stay in Lebua 8 years ago - wow it was luxurious.
Quite excited, we wanted to go to the Skybar much too early and then sold the waiting time with a rather expensive aperitif in the Distil, as there were still some nuts for free. The experience Lebua and the Skybar are definitely an experience. I would not recommend a dinner in sirocco, because it can be very windy up there - we saw some tablecloths and napkins waving around and the guests often had hair on their faces :-)
