Autumn vacation destinations: city break or beach holiday?

Many city trips within Europe are more pleasant in the fall than in the heat of midsummer.

Or would you prefer to spend a beach vacation in the autumn holidays , with empty beaches and cheaper prices than in the high season? Or explore exotic destinations ?

I'm booking Europe tickets for Omio (previously GoEuro). There you can easily compare for your destination train, long-distance bus and flight - according to duration and price.

Do you already know these articles and book tips ?

The colors of the Cyclades are so beautiful: white buildings against the deep blue sea, green palms and pink flowers. What I still love: the nice people, the delicious food, swimming in the sea or boat trips.

During the holiday in September I have already visited the islands of Santorini and Milos - at up to 31 degrees.

What I also highly recommend: island hopping Greece . In the post you will find all the important tips on flight, route, ferries, sights, costs, hotels and restaurants.

Wanted tips for individual islands? During the island hopping I visited Mykonos , Naxos and Paros .

My absolute favorite among the five islands is Paros, least of all I liked Mykonos.

I always book my tours through Get Your Guide. Also for the Cyclades there are many nice offers.

Travel Know-How Island Trip: Where is it warm in the fall? The Canary Islands belong to Spain and lie off the west coast of Africa. I have already visited Tenerife, La Palma and La Gomera from the "Islands of Eternal Spring" with their mild climate.

In Tenerife, I especially liked the volcanoes, the black beaches and the lava pools. You can watch dolphins or the stars there, many also go hiking.

You want to discover hidden places? Here in the blog reveals a local his Tenerife insider tips .

By now I have been to Tenerife three times. In these hotels I have stayed there, I can highly recommend them all:

Parador de las Cañadas del Teide : the only hotel in the National Park
Casa Rural El Patio de Tita : Accommodation on a banana plantation
Oceano Hotel Health Spa is located in Punta del Hidalgo, right on the seafront and next to a natural pool, great food and great spa treatments
Hotel Atlantic Mirage Suites Spa : 4 stars "adults only hotel" in Puerto de la Cruz, all rooms with sea view, fantastic roof terrace

111 places in Some time ago I was in Mallorca for the first time. The local Barbara (here she reveals her Mallorca insider tips ) showed me the island. The city of Palma, beautiful beaches and beach bars as well as great food - I'm a fan now!

Before that, I was in Ibiza in September. The island is considered a party stronghold. But my friend Nicole and I looked relaxed beaches, visited hippie markets and were in the evening in beach bars.

I love Italy's capital. There is so much to see, to experience and to taste.

My hotel tip: The Rione Monti Suites (booked through Booking.com) in the hip Monti district. It lies between the Roma Termini train station and the Coliseum. I was also quick at the Trevi Fountain, at the Spanish Steps or at the Pantheon. I even ran to the Vatican.

I really enjoyed this tour of Get your Guide: Vatican, Sistine Chapel St. Peter's Basilica .

I was happy to be able to handle the long queues without waiting in the lead. On this tour I found especially the St. Peter's Dome with the huge St. Peter's Square extremely impressive.

But my favorite sight in Rome is clearly the Coliseum . At its height, it offered space for more than 50,000 spectators watching gladiatorial competitions. A great motif for souvenir photos and Instagram!

During a guided tour without getting your guide, I looked at the Coliseum from the inside. Here you can find the tours.

Besides the sights, my highlight in Rome is the food. Even as a vegetarian I was very happy there - with pizza, pasta and tiramisu.

5) Cheap city break in autumn: Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, the beauty of seven hills, is one of my favorite cities! I like Portugal's capital that it is not quite as crowded as Barcelona for example, is reasonably priced and offers great food .

I've been to Lisbon in November, it was still nice and warm . So I could look at the blue sky and sun, the old town, the river Tagus and attractions such as the Torre de Belem.

Where you stay the best in Lisbon? I can recommend you My Story Hotel Ouro . It is located in the central Praca do Comercio, it was nice and quiet.

And how about the city tour history (s) and lifestyle of Get your Guide? In three hours you will discover the most exciting quarters with your guide. So you look at Bairro Alto, admire the view from Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara, ride the tram and visit Alfama.

Or is one of the other tours something for you?

In Bali - the Hindu "island of the gods" - I have been several times. It offers beaches, surfing and diving .

Unusually for me as a beach fan, it usually draws me to Ubud inside the island. Here I relax by the pool , visit the great cafes and restaurants (many also suitable for vegetarians and vegans), go to yoga , visit the monkeys in the Monkey Forest and have almost daily one of the spa treatments .

The dry season and therefore the main travel time is from April to October.

Here you will find the Bali insider tips of a local . verfasst. Melissa has also written this In my favorite Australian cities, Melbourne and Sydney , the seasons are the reverse of ours. Slowly spring is coming in our autumn.

Or are you drawn to subtropical to tropical Queensland with highlights like the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands ? Alternatively to the "Red Center" with the Uluru or Ayers Rock ?

My tip: get your guide and book a day trip along the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne . The road offers fantastic views of surfing beaches, rock formations in the sea, rainforest, koalas and, with a bit of luck, kangaroos.

I also like Sydney very much with Opera House , Harbor Bridge, many beaches and sweet cafes. In this article you will find the Sydney insider tips of a local.

Dear Anja, very nice tips! I'm just looking for a nice, sunny destination for a few days on the Reformation and All Saints Day. With just one day of vacation we have 5 days off in NRW :) At the beginning of October we are going to Lower Austria for hiking and cycling - I'm curious! At the end of October it must be a flight ... Best regards, Brigitte

My traditional fall destination for several years is Ibiza, in October, after the club season is over. You mentioned in the article Ibiza in September, as it is already noticeably quieter than in the main season, but in October there is a completely different mood and on top of that the hotel prices are really deep in the basement, especially in the 5 star area you threw the rooms downright - highly recommended, I am also this year again.

Great overview for autumn travel destinations! I would smoothly add Iceland;) Although not as warm as the ones mentioned here, but especially the months of September and October I find the island particularly exciting!

Hach, how nice :) If the holiday is still far away, I like to dream in distant lands and the destinations with lots of water - Canary Islands, Ibiza, Malta - just make you really wanderlust.
Great destinations, from which I want to visit Lassabon in any case next year.
    Many greetings
